Lush Boutique might be on vacation-mode on Etsy, but I'm sure not. I'm busy packing up our tiny apartment for our move to Boston. You'd think that an 800-sq-ft apartment could not hold a bunch of stuff, but it looks like it has exploded.

Future of Lush Boutique

I'm writing this blog post so you all will hold me to it. And so you will give me advice. I need advice.

A few months ago, my husband let me quit my job to start my jewelry business. I sell on Etsy. On Etsy, I can hide behind my pretty pictures and cute descriptions, and I don't really have to go out there and actively sell my products to customers. My biggest hurdles in this business have been complacency and fear – I’m ~~too scared~~ not “ready” yet to sell wholesale, or “business on Etsy will pick up soon, there’s not too much I can do about it.”

Now, my husband has been accepted to business school and we are moving from Sacramento to Boston in six short weeks. I’ve been struggling with the fact that I will be the only one with an income, and I will have some huge decisions to make regarding my employment and my business. My Etsy shop is definitely not providing a decent income right now, as much as I hate to say it.

I've decided this morning that for the next six weeks, I’m going to work like HELL to get those wholesale contracts, get my jewelry into shops, and get my name out there. It’s make it or break it time!

The fabulous Diane tweeted me the other day saying she loved my jewelry and wanted me to design a custom necklace for her. She wanted a three-tiered necklace with three different charms. She wanted it to be elegant, simple, and easy to wear.

Isn't it fabulous? I absolutely fell in love with her idea of what she wanted. I love simple - yet stunning -necklaces.

HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS BEFORE?!?!?!

Basically, you get a cash rebate when you shop online. You just sign into ebates, search for the store you want to shop at, and ebates redirects you to that site.. and then a month later they mail you a check for a percentage of what you spent.

AND these aren't crappy little stores that no one has ever heard of. iTunes, Apple, Nordstrom, Overstock, eBay, Delta, Hotwire. There are thousands... and I've been missing out on serious cash. Oh well.. guess better late than never, right?

2. Yell at that pattern, because you have looked at it eight times and just now realized it isn't all in English.

3. Watch a youtube video to try and understand the pattern

4. Put the beads, string, and needle down.

5. Put them down now!!!

6. Watch the video again

7. Don't get upset that your heart is not as nice as that bitch from the video (sorry, I’m sure she is a lovely lady)

8. Make cupcakes

9. Eat all of them

10. Check your email again for the 1,000th time in order to avoid the heap of destruction and beads covering your floor

11. Put your mangled heart down again and work on something you are already good at to make yourself feel like a better person

12. Treasure the heart pendant you made in class because you're obviously never making one again.

Wedding Season!

I got an email from the lovely Shannon who is getting married in May. She was looking for jewelry for her bridesmaids and loved the Brentwood necklace, but wanted something that would go with their dresses and shoes. Her colors are light pewter and shades of yellow.

So, we changed the brass change on the Brentwood to a gunmetal, and Voila! (I'm not french, am I still allowed to use that word?)

I can't wait for her to get her five jewelry sets! Congrats again Shannon, and send us pictures of your beautiful wedding!

The Rose Bowl

Last night was the Rose Bowl, and being from Texas.. well, my heart was broken when the UT quarterback got hurt and was out of the game. Then, in the second half, the game got really close and things got a little intense, and when things get intense/stressful on tv, I either 1. fast-forward or 2. make earrings.

Since my husband was watching with me, and fast-forwarding or changing the channel would be completely unacceptable, well...

This little bracelet definitely gave me a few troubles while making it. I loved the lemon quartz from the moment I spotted it, but I was not sure how to best show them off. After wire-wrapping the gems, I connected them to the gorgeous textured oval rings with hard-core jump rings (I nearly lost a finger). I can definitely assure you, the only way this bracelet is coming off your wrist is if you do it purposefully.

I love how the organic textured oval rings complement the cut crystal. The textures are so different, but the size and shape pull it together. The design itself is so simple, but stunning. I love it when jewelry pieces can make a statement without being too gaudy!

I've gotten a few questions lately about Etsy: What is Etsy? Why is Lush Boutique on Etsy? Is it treatable? Is there a vaccine to prevent the Etsy?

I'll give you the rundown:

Etsy is a website dedicated to all things handmade. Their mission is to help people make a living making things and to, in their words, Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade. They also have sections for vintage shops as well as supplies for crafters.

The Etsy community is worldwide - it boasts buyers and sellers from over 150 countries. Etsy sellers number in the hundreds of thousands, so if you think Lush Boutique is one-in-a-million, you're pretty close :)

Etsy was founded in 2005 and has been featured in literally every business, craft, fashion and political magazine and media outlet. Anyone can sell or buy on Etsy. Etsy takes a percentage of all sales, but it is absolutely free to purchase items on Etsy.

If you are looking for that unique, one-of-a-kind item, go to Etsy. If you can't find it in the stores, you can always request a custom item from any seller there.

Jewelry does so much more than enhance your sense of style and finish an outfit - it can change your mood, give you confidence, and uplift your spirits. We all know the "green" trend is exploding, and the desire to connect to nature is now driving fashion (and jewelry!) to use natural products such as semiprecious stones, shell, and wood.

Vibrant colors from nature are being paired with coppery browns, and metal colors are being combined with natural materials for a more edgy, organic look. Colors inspired by the outdoors are going to be everywhere this fall and winter - look for emeralds, soft lavenders, plums, modern pastels, warm browns and vibrant turquoises.

Yes, another fabulous pearl necklace.. Why so many posts about pearls, you ask?

1. Pearls are the birthstone for the month of June

2. I love pearls, and it's my blog and my store, so there.

I was feeling incredibly nostalgic for the ocean this past week, and so I created this necklace, inspired by the sea :)

Triple strands of lush white coin pearls and sterling silver chain fashion this stylish and beautifully edgy necklace. Delicate Swarovski crystals and white pearls dangle off an etched sterling silver chain, while the luminous white coin pearls add that swanky touch.

Summer Colors

Summer just makes me happy. I love everything that reminds me it's summertime - farmer's markets, the smell of chlorine, sunshine, popsicles, flip flops, even the heat. But most of all, I love the colors of summer: blues, pinks, oranges, greens..

This necklace was inspired by the colors of summer: Rich sky-blue squares of turquoise and sterling silver beads hang by double strands of gorgeous chic pink coral beads.

(Sorry for the picture quality. I'm waiting on my new laptop to arrive and until then.. we are stuck with my ancient iBook G4 that refuses to load new pictures as of yesterday.)

June is officially the month of weddings (I'm only guessing) and pearls are a classically chic way for a beautiful bride to glam up for the big day.

I love this bracelet and matching necklace (there are earrings too!). Delicate white coin pearls twinkle off a sterling silver chain in our ultra-chic version of the classic pearl charm bracelet and necklace.

I love the simplicity of the look - not too overdone (banish bridezilla) and classic enough that her future daughters will fight over it for their big day.

I have been in an all-out BATTLE with this bracelet for over 48 hours. First it was too short, then too long, the clasp wasn't right, you get the idea. I wanted it to be PERFECT...

And I outdid myself.

Isn't it gorgeous? Two strands of sparkling citrine sprinkled with 14kt gold-filled beads and finished with a 24kt gold-filled clasp.. it's breathtaking.

June is here, and summer is officially flirting with us. What's the hot new summer trend?

TURQUOISE.

I just added this hot little necklace to Lush Boutique, and don't you dare put on those shorts and sandals without it!

Gorgeous beads of turquoise are hand strung and knotted on matching silk thread. This turquoise necklace is much more tame than some of our other pieces, so if you feel intimidated, don't be!

I love Swarovski crystals, but I've been a little timid to wear them.. Remember a few years ago when everyone was practically swimming in them? I would layer the bracelets on up to my elbows and always blinded my friends in direct sunlight. Thankfully, those days are over. The trend with Swarovski crystals now has a much more organic feel, and it is fabulous.

This bracelet dazzles without causing retina damage. It is just so dainty and sparkly!

These earrings are just to die for. The jewels are all wire-wrapped, which gives it that trendy handmade look while the clusters of crystals give it that I'm Completely Fabulous look.
